Blessed Brigida Morello of Jesus
"Confidence, Confidence! A large heart!
God is a Father and He will never abandon us!"
Born on 10th June, 1610 in Piacenza, Italy, Brigida grew up in a deeply pious family, blooming in an atmosphere of religious virtues and prayer. Her life's motto was simple yet profound: “Love of God and neighbour.”
A mystic of the 17th century, she overcame the social obstacles of an era where women had little place in society. Witnessing the havoc of petty wars and industrial revolts on families, she responded to the call of the hour. On February 17th, 1649, she founded the Congregation of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate (UMI) with the specific aim of educating young girls.
Her spirituality was defined by a constant union with God through the Eucharist and a tender love for Mary Immaculate. After 24 years of illness borne with grace, she entered her eternal reward on 3rd September 1679. She was Beatified on 15th March 1998 by Pope John Paul II.
